Planning
for development of tourism of Xishuangbanna
On the ba sis of its original development
of tourism, our master planning is to develop "one
center, three grades of scenic regions (areas), four key
itineraries and seven tourist products", focusing on
more competitive tourist products in the market and realizing
the goal to shift from making use of local advantageous
tourism resources to bringing into full play its strength
in tourism economy. Partners at home and abroad are welcome
to joint hands with us in development of the tourism economy.
(1) "One center" refers
to Jinghong city, which will be developed into the structural
center of the tourism system of Xishuangbanna prefecture,
its downtown area being a receiving and distributing center,
as well as a city serving as a window of China facing southeast
countries and a passage for throughway for them to travel
to other parts of China.
(2) "Three scenic regions":
Jinghong, Menghai and Mengla.
Jinghong scenic region mainly features activities for holidays
and relaxation, displaying a pool of ethnic cultures and
"pattra-leaf culture" (Buddhist sutras written
on pattra leaves), and scenery of a tropical tourist city.
Menghai scenic region is mainly characterized by China-Myanmar
cross-border trips and a sightseeing tour to Daluo border
area, exhibiting the "large-tea-leaf culture"
at the home of the world-famous Puer tea and the "culture
of the home of Hinayana pagodas".
Mengla scenic region is known for its activities such as
view of tropical rainforest and exploratory trips to allow
tourists to experience the original life and folkway of
local villagers.
(3) "Three grades of scenic
regions (areas)" means to grade differently the scenic
regions or areas with potential values for development,
in accordance with the standard in Evaluation and Grading
of Scenic Regions (Areas) by the State Bureau of Quality
and Technical Supervision.
Based on current status of tourism development in Xishuangbanna
and its goal to develop further in 15 years from now on,
some 10 scenic regions (areas) of the prefecture will be
graded AAAA, AAA, and AA. Those that have been graded AAAA
will be developed or constructed in the near future as a
top quality tourist product, with a larger amount of investment.
In addition, according to a planning, some of key ports
of the prefecture will be built into recreation towns and
tourist towns.
(4) "Four itineraries"
in refer to "two main itineraries in the prefecture,
the upper reaches of the Lancang-Mekong river, and the long
cross-border tour ring":
The eastern tour ring gathers ethnic cultures and tropical
scenery of Xishuangbanna, comprising the Wild Elephant Ravine,
the Menglun Botanical Garden, the Garden of Dai Ethnic Group,
the Ecological Garden of the "Looking-into-the-Sky"
Trees (a kind of tall, evergreen dipteroarpaceae), and some
other scenic areas. More investment will be put in the eastern
tour ring, management will be strengthened for it, and planning
will be worked out for building it into a top quality tourist
product.
The western tour ring includes Daluo forest park, Bulang
ethnic village, Manfeilong white pagoda, featuring tourist
attractions of the border area and of local ethnic cultures
and tourism's impetus to economic development of the mountainous
area.
The on-water tour route along the
Lancang-Mekong river starts from Jinghong port, via Guanlei
pier, to the "Golden triangle" at the juncture
of the three countries: Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, the
farthest reaching Louangphrabang and Vientiane of Laos.
The tour route unfolds exotic scenery and customs of these
countries before tourists.
The long cross-border tour ring starts from Jinghong, leaves
for foreign destinations at Daluo (Menglar, Kengtung and
Tachilek of Myanmar; Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Bangkok
of Thailand; Louangphrabang and Vientiane of Laos), and
then returns to Jinghong via Mohan port and Mengla county.
It displays exotic landscapes and cultures.
(5) "Seven tourist products"
consist of tourist attractions for sightseeing, ethnic cultures,
ecological wonders, the exotic border area, scientific study
tours, exploration to the tropical rainforest, and commercial
meetings, which will be developed on large scales in stages
as competitive and attractive tourist products by use of
the rich and advantageous tourism resources of Xishuangbanna.
