Embroidered Pouch Throwing for Conveying Love
  
 
    During the New Year's Day by the Dai calendar, on the meadow and under large banyans near a Dai village, some Dai lads stand around 30 meters apart opposite to Dai maids gorgeously dressed, the maids throwing over colorful small pouches embroidered by themselves to their sweet hearts, to convey their love. After that, many of them arrange their own marriage and become lifelong companion.
It is said that a Dai headman at local pacification commission came to Manting garden on the New Year's Day. When the procession passed the street near his residence, local maids threw their self embroidered pouches to the headman's sons, to welcome them. Nowadays pouches the lads and maids throw back and forth on the New Year's Day, with lapse of time, become a keepsake as well as a media for them to find their suitors and get married.
